A Busy Season....

 

Happy Holidays!

Wow... It's been awhile since the last update! We are mostly moved in and while there's still plenty to do, we are enjoying the season.

With a bit of Holiday Cheer in most every room, the kitchen is the busiest; making special dinners and holiday treats.

Through those French doors we've had some fun dinners and created new memories!

We're loving the spacious living room.  Remember how cold it was last year? 

A new sofa and chair is definitely on my wish list : )!

We're finding the library to be coziest room in the house!

There you have it... I tried to hide the stuff we're still working on! But if you look close enough, you'll find it!

 

Holiday... Projects... & Crafts... an update!

Life certainly gets hectic during the Holidays and I find it especially difficult to sit in front of the computer to share what's going on.  Typically when I found time to sit, it was with my now defunct laptop! I would sit with my honey in the sunroom and while he worked on his computer, I would work on mine.  From time to time we would look lovingly to each other, enjoying that fact we didn't need to talk... being in the same room was enough :)!

Now that things have calmed down around here a bit, my desktop is still working (although in another room... miss you honey!) I thought I should recap:

The Holidays...

My Mom, Arlene had her annual Christmas Party and has been waiting for me to post a few photos she can share with her friends.

As you can see there's always plenty of food, and this is just a sampling!

White Christmas was the theme this year!

From the bar to the outside, everything is covered in lights creating a very festive mood!

This is truly an event friends and family look forward to attending each December!

Taking the train to Portland and spending time with my daughter and her girls was definitely a treat! We're putting this on our "to do more often" list!

Projects:

Not only did we have the Holidays to keep us busy we also embarked on a new project: A little fixer-upper! Here's a little sneak peek:

This is a home to be shared!  With a roaring fire we were able to get the temp up to a toasty 56 degrees and enjoyed a great evening with our Gourmet Group!

I'll be sharing more in the day's and months to come!

New Year's was spent camping at Nahalem Bay State Park, one of our favorite local Spots! Cold but clear, with lots of time spent walking on the beach and watching the sun set!

Crafting:

Yesterday I whippped up these sweet little bags for a birthday gift! They'll be filled with fun treats and sent to Japan for a sweet girl we don't get to see nearly enough!

Sharing the Season... A recap...

With the New Year right around the corner I thought it best to share the fun (and not so much) we had during the Christmas Season...

We started the season with the annual Gala of Trees to support Boys and Girls Aid Society. Then had our annual Gourmet Group Planning 2012 Christmas Party. Next, we shared a wonderful weekend with our Granddaughter. Then...

My Mom had her annual Christmas Party! It gets better every year and while I was supposed to take pictures of all her wonderful decorations and food she had prepared I was caught up in all the fun with all the wonderful friends and family. With less than 1000 square feet she entertains and feeds about 35 - 40 guests! Everyone has a great time!

We're a close bunch... but you've got to be when space is limited ; )!

I know I keep saying it but this was her best party yet! The food was spectacular; the guests were fun and we all had a great time! And here's a sampling of her decor from last year and I managed to get this from 2011!

 Next...

A quiet celebration with Brent and Kat as they will be out of town this Christmas. We had a simple dinner with Chicken and Dumplings, went ot see Hugo on the big screen...

And then came home and shared lemon cake and a glass of milk!

Forgot to mention they got us a new goat...

With all the excitement and parties filling the season there has to be a little drama and mine was received the Tuesday before Christmas with a phone call from my Honey; he had been hit on his bike while riding to work.  He was OK but his bike was trashed. He rides 11 miles to and from work 3 - 4 days a week and I'm so thankful he wasn't seriously hurt; he was mostly upset about his bike. It would have to be replaced and in the mean time he would have to ride his old winter bike which isn't nearly as much fun. So what does one do when your honey gets hit by a car, goes into work for the day and really only needs a bit of sympathy from you? Well, I went to yoga class.

So just a reminder when you're out there driving... Please stay focused on the road. That phone call, text or whatever else can wait till you're stopped.

OK... On to Christmas Eve! My sister sent me this photo taken at her house. There was so much going on I didn't have a chance to pick up a camera! Our family is loud, fun and loves to eat; we definitely have a good time together...

After that celebration we headed to Bill's Moms house for a bit more celebrating and a chance to visit more family!

Without Brent and Kat, Christmas Day was a bit quiet... We opened gifts and Tuesday loved her new hat with the simple bow I made for it...

We played with the trains...

Collaborating to fit all the pieces together and make one giant track. I think the big kids had the most fun!

After a nice dinner and couple lemon cookies, Papa bundled Tuesday up and they headed for home...

As 2011 comes to a close I take this time to reflect on all that I have to be thankful for!

Sharing Christmas Projects...

There are times when handmade crafted projects are a hit and sometimes they are a miss! This year I'm happy to say they were a hit and well received! Those that received this hand crafted gift loved them and those that didn't shared a bit of disappointment on their faces (sorry to those that didn't).

It all started when I ran across this old photo of my Mom in a grade school photo. She volunteers 3 days a week, 6 hours a day (sounds like a job to me, but I disgress) and  needed a tote to carry her lunch and reading material to school.  I shared the back of it here, but didn't want to give to much away. Now the front...

That's her on the bottom row, 5th from the right!

I made a pillow for my sister, with ribbon that complemented her room on one side, when she tires of looking at us on the other : )!

My Honey wanted me to make one for his Mom so he found the perfect photo for her tote; Mom with kids on their Alaska trip. I can only imagine traveling with four kids in a station wagon!

This will be perfect to take on her many adventures!

There are more... I'll share them in a Newsletter soon! This was a fun project for layering warm and vibrant colors and texture!

Christmas Trains...

Grandpa brought his trains out for Tuesday...
