After... and Before. A Kitchen Remodel

This project consisted of taking out a wall between the kitchen and great room, tearing out most of cabinets and reconfiguring them. It was necessary to add an additional four cabinets in the new layout. The coffee / wine bar  was previously the desk and catch-all space. The tile behind the buffet appears lighter, but it is actually the same as behind the 66" range.

I wished I had taken more before photos, but I didn't wish to impose on the owners. It was a challenging project, but one of the most rewarding. 

Kitchen / Bath Featured

The before and after photos of our kitchen and bath were featured in Canyon Creek Echos Magazine!

The Kitchen and Master Bath Cabinets Doors are Hampton. They were painted on a Maple with CC Color #1-3901P. I chose this color as I wanted one with a slight gray undertone.
Walls in kitchen are painted Sherwin Williams Nebulous White SW 7063, Ceilings bright white with Beams painted Passive SW 7064.

 

Organizing...

Moving into a wonderful old home, has it's challenges; one being storage. We are using this old icebox for food storage and while it looks organized, the cabinet is deep and things get lost in the back!

After takinga advantage of the big sale going on at the Container Store, it's easier to keep things organized after we installed the Elfa Mesh Easy Gliders!

We also used the Elfa Mesh Drawers for our recycle...

This fit perfectly into this funny little cabinet at the base of the stairs. Glass on top, Paper in the middle and plasitic on the bottom!

Being a foodie, I love to cook! and enjoy all the small appliances that go with it. So to accomodate these toys, we used the InterMetro shelving unit.

The space is 25" wide and the 24"system was easily put together inside the closet! I selected wire, solid, drawer shelving, and hooks to create the perfect unit for this small space!

Now I just need to get started on the basement : )!

 

 

Renovation... an Update!

There is a sense that I'm a bit behind on updating our very big project, but there is a very good explanation for that. No, I'm not making excuses... but each time I think I'm ready to share photos of everything we have accomplished, I find the remnants of paint/hardware/tools everywhere!

Take this kitchen photo for instance... do you see either side of the counter top? Of course not! Each side is piled with hardware and cleaning supplies! But don't you just love the Marmoleum floor along with cabinets, hardware and fixtures! Remember how it used to look?                

And how do you like the wallpaper in the powder bath? Well that's all you get to see because in all the excitement of getting started, I cut the first roll and half without taking into account there would be a drop (not the first time I've done that either)... My tools are sitting on the toilet ready for me to finish this little project!

Loving the carpet in the Master Bedroom! I would show you photos of the other side of the room but the intercom is hanging off the wall... Not a good look!

OK... Here it is the Master Bath! and I've got to say I love it! I'm still debating whether or not to put shower doors on, as no water hits the floor.  My concern is to keep the heat in while showering. I do love the way the light from the big windows make it all the way over to the vanity. And the tub... just as I envisioned!

The wood floors are amazing! What you don't see in this room is the sheetrock leaned up against the other wall, it was used for the den ceiling. Now, I just need the sheet rock guys to remove the stuff they didn't use!

So here's a question for you: Do you want to see all the clutter and mess that goes along with renovation? or Do you like to see the perfect finished project?

Be warned... The clutter and mess isn't pretty : )!

Loving the Floors

I peeked inside ever so briefly to capture the beauty of the newly refinished floors!
Odor still quite strong but I couldn't resist sharing!

It doesn't seem that long ago when our gourmet group sat around in a table in coats, enjoying a first of many gatherings to come!

Kitchen... Progress

It wasn't that long ago when the kitchen looked like this. The wall on the left seperated it from the "breakfast room".
This space was painted a high gloss yellow. We took down the wall you see on the left, but kept the built in cabinets on the back wall. That tall skinny cabinet was for the leaves for the dining table and the small cabinet above is the laundry shoot.
These are the cabinets we removed.

We longed for a modern open kitchen, but still wanted to keep a few of the original elements. The cabinets on the back wall were for ironing board and icebox; we'll use it for spices and pantry.

Here you see the plumbers  working thier magic; replacing the old plumbing.
Sheetrock replaced some of the lathe and plaster and all walls were retextured.
We let the professionals paint... I love how they cover every thing so perfectly before they spray. It takes a bit of time to cover, but then just minutes to spray the trim.
So this is what it's looking like...
I love the open feel...
The walls get painted Tuesday and cabinets start going in Wednesday! Yippee!

Update... A recap of the last month or so...

I've been reminded it's been over a month since I've posted... Seriously I don't know how you guys keep up with this whole blogging thing!  Life is certainly keeping me busy! Not only is there Ribbon Jar (yes I'm making sure the orders are filled every day!), there's also the Renovation, making sure our home is running smoothly (my honey still gets a nice meal most evenings, cooking is actually the relaxing part of the day) and I try to squeeze as much time in for family and friends as possible! I certainly hope they don't feel I love them any less because that simply isn't true!

So here's a little update... Remember the vision for a soaking tub? Well it's closer to becoming a reality!

After tearing out the wall between the master bath and the sleeping porch the room felt much bigger but ceiling is low and electrical hangs in the center of room.

The floors had to be torn up to make room for plumbing and the old fir floor would eventually come out of the sleeping porch side.

Then there was the issue of a leaky roof and something they call dry rot... anything but dry and definitely a hassel during our rainy wet winter! That area was in the hall bath; right next to master bath and actually the only bad part in the roof.  Brent came up with a brilliant solution to solve roof issue (we can discuss that later)!

The higher ceilings give the room a much better feel (even for a short person like myself)!

New lighting.... Yippee!

On Stripping Wallpaper...

Typically I'm one of those people that adds layer upon lay of wallpaper to a wall... So much easier than stripping it!  But with this renovation I wanted to do it right! So I bought myself an inexpensive wallpaper stripper and went to town.

Although there were three layer of paper it came off quite easily. 

As I moved around the room at quite a reasonable pace, I was quite smug in my thinking... Why does everyone say this is such an aweful job?  They must be doing something wrong ; )!

Seriously... This was no big deal!

All I can say is thank goodness I started with the two rooms I did! The third room was hideous!!! It came off in little tiny bits... My frustration mounted! So much so that I never did get my camera out to share the bits on the floor! No, I just kept plugging along and day two... I had my honey work on the project!

A Big Project...

Back in December we started a REALLY BIG project.  While I've been wanting to get these photos up I didn't know where to start. So here it is March and you've just had a glimps of what we are working on. My honey took the photos and most of them are still on his computer so I'm going to start with the outside since that is where one starts before they come in the door.

Looking back I forget how beautiful fall can be. As you can see the place needs a lot of love...  I will let the photos speak for themselves, but should you have any questions, just ask.
