Color Chic

Style...

I probably should have been a bit more aggressive in getting this photo because this is the classiest ride I've ever seen. The woman driving it was fabulously dressed, and deserved to drive something as stylish!

Color in Nature...

The inspiration for good design can be found in nature. The color, texture and patterns obviously work well together.

Fawn, Sterling, Umber, and Del Mar Satin; Ocean, Gray, Mustard and Tomato Soup with Black Lace Velvet; and Ochre Cotton Georgette Tape... These ribbons complement each other nicely. Using a lighter shade of a weighty velvet balances the darker shade of satin and the georgette tape and lace add wonderful texture.

Wouldn't you agree nature gets it right?

Exploring on Bikes....

With just a couple of hours to explore the Valley in Yosemite before we had to move camp we rented bikes...

Really comfortable cruisers!

We were able to cover a lot of ground as we peddled down the bike path...

The granite walls were spectacular...

We stopped to check out the church in the park...

and saw a reminder of the height of the century floods...

 

Of course I wasn't able to capture everything through a photo, but take my word riding bikes was exhilerating! There is such freedom in biking, and it's a great way to get around!

On The Road...

It's been days since we've had access to the internet and I while I don't want to waste my vacation time sitting on my computer I thought it would be fun to post a few photo's and share our adventure.

We are loving our accomodations!

Better Photos...

The sun finally came out today giving me the opportunity to take a few more photos of the totebag!  Natural light is so much better than the dim, night time light in my sewing/craft room.

I Love the scalloped edge around the painted frog made from sewing ric-rac in between the seams.

And how well the painted frog, ric-rac, polka dot and linen fabric all complement each other. You may have also noticed I changed the buttons today, the others just did not work well!

Arlene painted a few other garden friends, so you may be seeing more totebags in the near future.

Ric-Rac and a Handbag

 Last week I shared on facebook that I was about to start another project! I had a Painted Frog, Polka Dot fabric, Ric-Rac test sample and yards of very fabulous Ric-Rac!

Tonight I sat down at my sewing machine and started sewing. I'm never quite sure exactly how some projects will develop sometimes they just progress as the project moves from one stage to the next!

I started by trimming the frog so it had two inches of fabric around it.

I added Ric-Rac to the top and sides for a bit of added detail:

The inside of this handbag will be a fabulous Polka Dot with colors that work perfectly with the frog!

I covered the back with Ric-Rac by first drawing lines to use as a guide and then played with the Ric-Rac until I got the desired pattern.

The back was a bit larger than the top but I simply trimmed it once I had the Ric-Rac sewn on.

With right sides facing the front and back were sewn together.

It's late and the lighting isn't the best but it's mostly done! I need to find a bigger button as a clasp.

I will certainly try to take some better photos to share!

Not sure what I'll use this bag for, it has a nice big pocket inside so I could use it to carry a knitting project! or perhaps  I will give it as a gift...

Sew Modern Monday

Sweet Silky PJ's Done...

Well it hasn't quite been a month but I finally took the time to sit down this morning and sew up these silky, light weight PJ's while summer was still here.  These are super easy to sew up and wouldn't have taken me any time at all if my sewing machine hadn't been giving me fits... But that's another story...

Love the Ric-Rac detail... Makes it that much sweeter...

Hopefully my darling granddaughter will like these as well as the last set I made her!
